It’s nearly the end of February 2019. It’s one of my goals for myself to start writing blogs and adding them to my yogastation website. The main aim of writing blogs is to share what I’ve learnt from reading my favourite books. At the moment my favourite book has the cheery title of How Not to Die by Michael Greger, MD.
This book was recommended to my husband by the nurse at the local doctors. Last year Steve and I went veggie. Steve’s blood pressure had gone up, mainly due to eating more cheese.
In the introduction the inspiring story of how Michael’s grandmother, aged 65, went to the doctors who sent her home in a wheelchair to die. Diagnosed with end stage heart disease and confined to a wheelchair with crushing chest pain, her doctors told her there was nothing else they could do. On TV 60 minutes by Nathan Pritikin, Michael’s grandmother was intrigued which prompted her to trek across America to see him for a further diagnosis. She walked out and thanks to a change in lifestyle and diet lived to the age of 96.
The book recommends the best foods to eat to avoid conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, prostate cancer, depresssion. Chapter 15 lists how not to die from Iatrogenic causes (or, how not to die from doctors).
He also recommends a daily dozen, foods to eat every day.http://http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1532/1095/products/mockup-2eff1d96_grande.jpg?v=1519096015
Daily Dozen foods recommended are beans, berries, other fruits, vegetables, greens, flaxseeds, nuts, spices, whole grains, beverages and lastly exercise.
There’s also a recipe book of great plant food recipes – one at the bottom of this blog.
Well that’s it. Hope you enjoyed reading. Just at the moment getting the hang of publishing a blog. WordPress for Dummies borrowed from library. 300 words required to get the ticks from WordPress!
